We all have a story, a cause, a nonprofit that speaks to our hearts. During this season of giving and gratitude, we asked each member of our team to share one of theirs with you.

Carolyn Scherer: Building a campfire with wet wood was one of the most practical skills I learned as a wilderness guide at Camp Amnicon, but far from the only one. My summers working as a camp guide, immersed in nature and in community with other adventurers, provided me with some of the most foundational self-discovery and leadership development opportunities that have shaped who I am. Those experiences sparked a 20+ year professional journey in the nonprofit field and a continued love for all things outdoors. It is my hope that all young people and adults have access to the profound effects of nature and supportive community at places like Camp Amnicon.
